Addiction

"The disease of addiction does not discriminate. It affects people from all walks of life; from Yale to jail; from Park Place to park bench and everywhere in between. Addicts are some of the most talented, gifted, intelligent, caring, and compassionate people I know. But unless we recover, the ends are always the same: jails, institutions, or death."

---So true. Such a sad way to end a life so full of giftedness. This is the reason we do Celebrate Recovery at GraceView. There are more than we realize who struggle with alcohol, drugs (including prescription medication), overeating, depression, financial bondages, and so much more. It could be someone who sits next to you in church, someone who works across the hall from you, someone in your family, an acquaintance, a spouse, or any other person who you rub shoulders with. These strongholds are no respecters of persons. These strongholds cross socio-economic lines. They appear everywhere from Hollywood to Nashville, to Washington, and even to the churches. But…There is freedom…There is Hope. If it is you or someone you know, point them to the hope of Christ before it’s too late.

Refreshing Others

Solomon, an incredibly wise and successful Man gave the following truth for success in life: “One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” (Prov. 11)  The truth is that those who are the unhappiest in life are usually the ones who have never lived out this life changing principle. When we “refresh” others whether it is the gift of time, a listening ear, financial help, a meal, or any other need they may have at the moment, we not only please the heart of our Lord, but as well our minds and hearts become liberated from the daily grind and disappointments that can often come our way. I have found that when I involve myself and witness others involving themselves someway - somehow in the lives of others who are hurting and need rescue and restoration in their lives, there is a supernatural blessing and manner of favor that comes from the Lord because we are doing His kingdom business. Giving freely and generously as Solomon has told us is a life God rewards both now in the present, and in the future eternally. Why not ask God today to open your eyes and ears to that person or that need that might just be a Divine opportunity for you personally to find a new sense of freedom and refreshment all from our heavenly Father.

Best Kept Secret

Since I have started working here at the Haven of Rest Ministries, I have heard several say that this ministry is the best kept secret.  And I have to agree.  Before I began volunteering for the Haven of Rest, I only thought of it as a thrift store.  I saw the stores everywhere, but little did I know of the great work that God is actually doing through this ministry!!

As we progress deeper into 2012,  we want to expand other's knowledge of the Haven of Rest through social media.  We will be updating our twitter and facebook accounts daily.  Plus we will be updating our website with information on upcoming events, the ministries, and donation tributes.

So please, help us to let this secret out to the world!  We want people to know that God is changing lives through our ministry.  Let your friends and family know about the Haven of Rest!
